Jill was referred to my office by her family physician for chronic headaches and neck stiffness that started about 6 years ago.
After reviewing Jill’s history I found out that her headaches began shortly after she took a new job. Her job required her to be on a computer 6 hours a day.
Unfortunately the ergonomics associated with long term computer use can put a great deal of stress and tension on the back of the neck and shoulders.
An x-ray was taken in my office which showed a reversal of the normal cervical curve in the lateral view. This is a common finding in jobs that put a person in a forward head posture. Treatment, along with ergonomic corrective changes, were given to Jill. By lowering Jill’s seat and elevating her computer along with using a lumbar support pillow biomechanical corrective changes were improved.
Chiropractic adjustments along with a special type of lordotic cervical traction was started three times a week for 4 weeks. After that Jill noticed major improvement in her neck pain and a reduction in headaches.
Her pain on a scale of 1 - 10 went from an 8 to a 3 in just a matter of 4 weeks. Jill was referred back to her primary physician for medical follow up and was recommended that she return to our office in one month to monitor her improvement.
